Media often pictures war, tensions and destruction in Afghan cities while there are many other issues to report on like the unity among different groups.

The 9th session of “Knowing Nations” was held at Peace Sprit Foundation on August 28 on Afghanistan.

Hosting “Hussein Ihsani”, the Afghan student of University of Tehran, the session was dedicated to issues affecting the ME country including war and conflict.

Noting the domestic tensions in Afghanistan as the root cause of migration to Iran, Mr. Ihsani underlined that the main problem of Afghan people is the illusion of enduring war and lack of peace.

“The most important part of my activities has been traveling to different cities and talking to people, face to face, in a bid to promote peace and humanism and clear the idea of lasting war from their minds and we achieved good results,” he said while briefing his humanitarian activities for promoting peace.

Ihsani underlined that about 55 ethnic groups live in Afghanistan; “most of them are foreign forces who are considered Afghani due to political and security issues and this diversity has led to sectarian tensions in the country.”

“Yet religious unity exists among people,” he said noting the unity particularly among Shia and Sunnis; “they have a lot in common in different religious occasions and this is what has to be highlighted in the media; they mostly cover war and destruction in Afghanistan cities,” he lamented.

Ihasani also criticized lack of national identity in Afghanistan; “Afghanistan lacks national unity and the idea of unity in national level; nationalism in Afghanistan resembles fascism and belief in national unity equals removing sub-identities.”

On Tehran-Kabul ties, he noted the friendly ties between the two countries and their unwavering support in different conditions; “most recently Iran solved the issue of education for Afghan migrants with support of Leader Khamenei and such efforts certainly would help boosting of constructive ties between the two nations.”
