Trump’s Jerusalem decision was roundly condemned by world leaders and public protests were held in solidarity with oppressed people of Palestine.

US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the US was formally recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israeli regime and would move its embassy to the city in near future.

 

The decision sparked public protests in Palestine on same day and led to escalation of tensions in between regime forces and demonstrators. People in countries of Islamic world including Turkey, Jordan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Tunisia, Iran and Afghanistan also held massive demonstrations against the decision on Friday in solidarity by Palestinians and against the act.

 

 

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the unilateral act calling for direct negotiations between Palestine and Israeli regime; “in this moment of great anxiety, I want to make it clear: there is no alternative to the two-state solution. There is no Plan B,” he underlined.

 

Pop Francis also said he had “deep worry” about recent developments, and declared Jerusalem a unique and sacred place for Christians, Jews and Muslims that has a “special vocation for peace.”

 

 

United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on Friday and denounced US’ decision on recognizing the Jerusalem as capital of Israeli regime as well.

 

So far two Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured as Day of Rage protests continue across the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
